Meet Mrs. Peterson & Mrs. Hughes
LESLIE PETERSON:
It's been a while since I was in Kindergarten, but I remember my loving my teacher, Mrs. Gilbert. I went to Cranbury Elementary School, a very small school back then, in Cranbury, New Jersey. I was a "walker" and we would take a shortcut through a cemetary to get there! Although the walk was a little scary, once I was there I loved it! Back then Kindergarten was half day, and I was a "Morning Kindergartener". We would take a wagon to the cafeteria to get milk for our snack. I loved story time, show and tell, and remember we had LOTS of play time. I don't remember doing anything remotely academic. Fast forward . . . I am married to Eric Peterson, and we are the proud parents of three children, Carl (25), Ken (23), and Grace (21). We have lived in the Atlanta area since 1990, and moved here from Boston. I love reading, entertaining, traveling, and spending time with my family and my friends. Teaching is a second career for me. I graduated from Kalamazoo College in Kalamazoo, Michigan, where my family was originally from. I started out as a software engineer in Boston and worked in that industry until I had my third child. I was involved as a parent volunteer at my children's school and decided I wanted to teach. I spent a couple of years as a Kindergarten assistant while attending Mercer University to get my teaching certification. I started out as a first grade teacher and now teach Kindergarten. I love teaching Kindergarten because I love teaching children how to read and write. I think that Kindergarten should be a happy place, where everyone feels welcome and loved, and where we can laugh while we learn -it is the kind of environment I strive for as your child's teacher.
